Acuity understands your privacy concerns. Since privacy is not a “one size fits all” situation, we provide this Privacy Statement to offer transparency, helping you make informed decisions about how we handle your personal information.
What Does This Privacy Statement Not Cover?
This Privacy Statement is not a guarantee of privacy. Acuity will take reasonable precautions to protect your information while it is in our possession. However, due to the state of technology, no computer system is completely safe, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information.
This Privacy Statement does not apply to information shared via public forums, social media sites, or similar channels. While our products and websites may direct you to sites managed by others, Acuity may not control or have responsibility for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy practices before providing personal information.
Finally, this Privacy Statement does not cover information about children under the age of 16. Our products and websites are not designed to appeal to children, and we request that children do not provide us with any information. We also expect parents to monitor their children's activities and prevent them from sharing such information with us.
What Tools Can I Use to Protect My Privacy?
This Privacy Statement is designed to help you understand who Acuity is, what personal information Acuity and its affiliates collect, and what we do with that personal information. However, we understand that you may simply want to know what tools we provide to allow you to effectively communicate with us about your privacy needs.
Acuity’ websites may use cookies. A computer "cookie" is a small file stored on your device that helps websites remember your preferences and activities. Go to https://www.acuitybrands.com/privacy-statement/cookie-disclosure to learn about and control how we use cookies.
Here is a chart showing the various processes for which we collect and use specific categories of personal information. Note that this chart may be overinclusive for your specific situation, as not all categories are always considered personal information or collected by Acuity in every situation.
At the bottom of every Acuity website (e.g., www.acuityinc.com) there are two links that you can use to make sure that Acuity uses your information in accordance with your preferences.
- “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” – By following this link and providing us the requested information, you can let us know that you do not want us to use your information, or share your information with third parties, for marketing purposes. This is only necessary if you have previously opted in and allowed us to use your information for these purposes. Acuity does not sell personal information or use information for marketing purposes without consent.
- “Exercise My Rights” – Various privacy laws grant you certain rights regarding your personal information. These rights generally include knowing what types of personal information Acuity holds about you, correcting any incorrect information, and requesting the deletion of your information. By following this link, completing the identity verification process, and providing the requested information, you can exercise your personal information rights. After validating your request, Acuity will investigate the extent of the personal information we hold, if any, and respond to the email address you provide. If you would prefer, you can also exercise these rights by calling +1-844-228-4899. Please note that this telephone number is not appropriate for any other purpose, such as seeking product support or providing legal notice to Acuity.
We want you to know that there are some limitations to Acuity’ ability to comply with your requests. We can only delete the requested information if Acuity no longer has a legitimate business purpose that requires us to hold it, such as carrying out an existing business transaction or complying with regulatory requirements. Also, your information may persist in data backups that we maintain as part of our regular business, but we will not use those backups for any purpose other than restoring our systems after which point youe data will be deleted.
By working together using these tools, you can feel reassured that Acuity will respect your privacy.

What Information Do We Collect?
The information we collect about you depends on how you interact with Acuity and for what purpose. For example, if you are a job applicant providing information via a website, we may collect certain information. But if you are a customer using one of our software products, we may collect different information. If you want to specifically know the types of information we collect, look at the linked chart referenced in the Tools section above. But generally, the information we collect falls into a few broad categories:
Information You Give Directly to Us You may provide us with information directly, such as when you fill out a paper form or a form on a webpage or in a product, such as feedback forms, employment applications, registration forms, order forms, information requests, online surveys, or contests. You may also provide information when purchasing a product or service or calling us for technical support or warranty services. Common types of personal information you may provide include physical address, email address, phone and fax numbers, company name, title or job position, employment history, purchase history, and plans for future purchases.
Information About Your Technology Through some of our technology products, we may automatically collect device-specific information like your device model, operating system version, non-unique device identifiers, and network information. When you visit our website, we may record information such as the web request that sent you there, your IP address, your browser type and language settings, and the date and time of your visit. Our software products may also tell us what version of the software you are using.
Information About Your Usage When using our technology products or visiting our website, we may record information about your experience. This includes details of how you used the product or website, what functions you utilized and how often, and information about malfunctions and crashes.
Information About A Device’s Location Some of our products can determine the physical location of your device using technologies such as GPS, radio communication, and light patterns detected by your device's camera. While this location information is provided to Acuity, we do not collect it in a way that allows us to correlate it to you as a specific individual. We can only correlate it with a token. However, an Acuity customer using those products may be able to identify you by combining this information with data you independently provided to them. But Acuity has no control over or access to that independently provided information or to your identity.
What Do We Do with the Information We Collect?
Acuity is committed to ensuring you understand how we use the information you provide. If you want to specifically know how we use information we collect, look at the linked chart referenced in the Tools section above. We only use your information for legitimate business purposes, such as:
To Provide and Improve Products We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our products and services, and to develop new ones. For example, if you order a product from us, we will use your information to provide technical support, or any feedback you provide to improve our products.
For Specific Purposes If we collect information for a specific purpose, we will use it for that purpose. For example, if you apply for a job, we use your information to evaluate your candidacy. If you request warranty services, we use your information to fulfill our obligations. Sometimes, we may use your information for reasons reasonably related to that for which you originally gave us the information, such as complying with non-discrimination laws or following up on warranty claims.
To Share with Others We may share your information with third parties to perform tasks on our behalf, such as background checks or hosting our software. We only share your information with these parties after entering contracts designed to protect your privacy.
To Anonymize We may share your information with specific parties or the public if we have altered it to be non-personally identifiable. For example, we might share survey results that cannot be used to identify you.
With Your Consent We may share your information with third parties if you explicitly consent or if it is necessary to perform the activity for which you provided the information. Examples include submitting training results to certification organizations or providing contest information to third parties for award delivery.
To Respond to Exceptional Circumstances In exceptional cases, we might disclose your information to protect the security of our products and websites, respond to third-party claims, comply with legal subpoenas, or in connection with the purchase or sale of our business or assets.
By providing your information, you agree that we can use it for these purposes.
How We Can Change This Privacy Statement?
Acuity may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. However, we will not reduce your rights for any previously provided data without your explicit consent. We will post any changes on this page and may also provide a more prominent notice, such as an email notification.
